The aim of Battlefield 2 is to reduce your opponents tickets to zero, every time someone is killed their side loses a ticket. Boats can play quite a big role, although they are extremely easy to stop, the most common insertion method is usually the Blackhawks. Several times I have played this map and we’ve been trapped at the Aircraft Carrier. The USMC start off with a point or points along the coast, but that doesn’t mean they can’t be pushed back. The USMC are based from an Aircraft Carrier operating off the coast (wouldn’t make much sense if it was inland…) and are invading\landing, the MEC have to stop them from taking the airbase. The two sides on this map are the MEC (Middle Eastern Coalition) and the USMC (United States Marine Corps), not exactly the most tactful sides but that’s not a big issue. It is also very open making it a challenge to survive the helicopters and planes, there are also just enough buildings to provide a challenge to the pilots. Other games that have done vehicles have often neglected to give them the room to operate, the Gulf of Oman is very big. ![]() In the mean time I thought I’d write a little about the map that came with the demo, and which was the first map I played once I got the full game, Gulf of Oman.īattlefield 2 has a pretty good balance between vehicles and soldiers on foot, at least when it comes to playing with larger numbers. I was slightly worried that Battlefield 2 would be the same, I’ll be sure to write something once I have had a chance to try the other maps. The demo for UT2004 used the best maps from each of the game modes, this meant the full game was somewhat of a disappointment. I have mentioned full games not living up to their demos before. I have been wanting to get this game for a long time, and a nice voucher from Zavvi helped bring the price to a lovely £3.56. I don't think you could ever zoom in and see a real time satellite feed, the commander mode was just reduced to a map view so they could put it on tablets.Today (yesterday) Battlefield 2: The Complete Collection arrived in the post. I couldn't tell you exactly why, maybe just rose tinted glasses, but I didn't think they had as good of a commander mode in BF4. At the time, I was blown away with the satellite view and how you could see all the soldiers running around like little ants and give them supply drops or UAV support. You could do it in the PC version but not in the console version. The thing I'll always remember was the commander mode in BF2. They were never in the PC version of BF2, and they were called "Deadly Pass" and "Backstab." They were kindof smaller maps, so I don't know if we will ever see their like again. There are these 2 desert maps from BF2:MC that I miss a lot, but DICE doesn't seem interested in remaking them for BF3 or 4. When the 360 came out, I remember BF2: Modern Combat was one of the few backwards compatible games and probably sold me on buying the 360 as soon as I did. Our neighbors would come over almost every night after work and we would pass the sticks around the room with modern combat on the Xbox. We would switch off playing and watching over the other's shoulder, but really it was his game so I was mostly watching! My computer wasn't up to snuff when BF2 came out, but my roommate in college had a nice PC and he picked up BF2 right when it came out for PC. I actually played more Battlefield 2: Modern Combat for Xbox than the PC version. I dabbled in the BF1942 demo but it didn't hook me like a lot of people. I have fond memories of BF2 because it truly got me into the series. ![]()
